The passing of two of our Old Tettenhallians
17/06/2022
Robert Pickering passed away on Sunday 5th June in Compton Care. Many will remember Rob as a keen sportsman, cricket being his main strength at school. He has been a long term member of Wolverhampton Tennis & Squash Club in Tettenhall.
We believe he had a successful career as an architect.
He was born on 12th August 1942 in Wednesfield and was at TC from September 1953 until July 1961.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday 5th July at St. Peter's Collegiate Church, Lich Gates, Wolverhampton WV1 1TY. The wake will be held afterwards at Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis & Squash Club, 53, Newbridge Crescent, Tettenhall WV6 0LH.

We have only recently heard about the passing in 2021 of Alec Price (born 28.6.1939) who was a boarder at TC from 1951 to 1956. He was a farmer at Featherstone Hall Farm near Wolverhampton, and spent his later years near Alcester, Warwickshire.

Both will be mentioned at our Service of Remembrance in November.
Regards. Stephen

Sad news
07/04/2022
I have heard this week the sad news that David Anderton OBE passed away on Friday 1st April. David attended TC from 1950 to 1958 and has always been an active supporter of the school.
David was a successful solicitor but we knew him mostly for his achievements in chess.
He was a Chess Grandmaster, Captain of England Chess, President of British Chess Federation and was awarded an OBE for his services to chess in 1976.
The photo shows David at our Chess tournament held pre covid.

Our sincere condolences go to his friends and family and in particular David's wife Doreen.

There will be a Memorial Service at St Michael's church for John Taylor on Sunday 20th March at 6:30pm. John was a music teacher at TC for many years and sadly passed away in 2020 during the pandemic when attendance at the funeral was limited.
All are welcome to attend this memorial service.
Gayna Mundy (TC 1982-1984)
10/03/2022
Our condolences go to Gayna's friends and family.

From Heather Walton -
It is with great sadness to let you know that Gayna Mundy (TC 1982-1984) sadly passed away around a week ago. I hadn’t heard from her and feared the worse. Her sister has just contacted me to let me know.
Gayna saw all the photos from our recent 1980’s photo reunion at TC a few weeks ago and I spoke to her briefly and we reminisced about our fabulous days at TC. She said they were the absolute best school days! We certainly had a laugh and great experience living away from home for the first time.
I’m going to go to her funeral on fri 18th March down in Worthing and her sister has also given me the live stream details for anyone who would like them.
RiP Gayna a lovely girl and great friend
As with all TC friends even when you may not see them regularly they are never forgotten xx

With thanks to David Davies (OT 64) for contacting us and to Roger Dugmore (OT 64) for the eulogy.

MICHAEL ORTON
1948 - 2021

Michael was born on 28th April 1948 in Walsall the third child of Jack and Olive Orton after David and Robert with Richard completing the family. ‘Mick’ following his two older brothers entered the College Lower School as a boarder in 1958 his contemporaries amongst others were Stephen Berg, Roger Dugmore, David Goodson, Philip Taylor and Ian Lanfear.
He entered form 3A in the Senior School in September 1959. Roger recounts that he excelled at PE and Gym and enjoyed all sports. On the 1961 sports day he came 1st in the U13 Hurdles, and was in a number of the School rugby teams.

As a teenager Michael became very interested in magic, buying lots of books on the subject, magic kits and equipment for individual tricks. He practiced all the time and it became very difficult to tell how the tricks were done and he would never tell !

After Tettenhall Michael attended Wolverhampton Art College and then Newport College of Art. He later attended a post graduate course at the Central School of Art in London. In 1969 Michael met Liz who was working part-time behind the bar at The Elms public House in Leytonstone. They married in 1977, daughter Alex was born in 1980 and son Nick in 1981. In June 1985 the family moved to Hitchin where they made many lifelong friends. Michael attended St Mark’s Church Hitchin for the last 35 years and was a very special, well respected, devoted and giving member of the St Mark’s family.

In the early 1980’s Michael started his own company with an office in Soho. Michael continued to work for himself gathering an impressive portfolio of clients including - Saatchi & Saatchi, New York design agencies, and blue chip UK companies.

Always the enthusiastic sportsman Michael was a very good runner, taught Judo at Hitchin Judo Club, and ran the London Marathon in 1988 and again in 1989 when he entered under the made up name of ‘Alexander Nicholls’.

Very sadly in 2008 Michael lost his beloved wife Liz to cancer. Following her death, Michael immersed himself in life with his children, holidays with friends, work and the Church.
Thankfully after a while and with the support of family and friends, Michael was able to build a new life for himself and to find happiness again with Julie who was introduced through a mutual friend. They enjoyed holidays, the theatre, meals with friends, drinks on the patio and had a future together planned. Sadly this was cut short with Michael’s illness, when in the summer of 2020 he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemo-therapy .
Michael passed away peacefully on 10th July 2021. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
