A recent update from Steve GordosSince retiring as sports editor at the Express & Star I have written several books about Wolves on such players as Peter Broadbent, Peter Knowles, Derek Dougan, Frank Munro. Also co wrote Golden Balls about players who scored hat-tricks for Wolves and Golden Glow about floodlit games at Molineux.Last year Golden Glory was published detailing the 1953-4 season when Wolves became champions of England for the first time. This year was the 70th anniversary of that triumph.Later this year my book, Golden Hero, will be published. This book tells the story of how Wolves skipper Billy Wright became the first man in the world to play in 100 internationals. This year marks the centenary of his birth. As a "first" his achievement has a permanent place in football history yet the Football Association seem to have forgotten him. There should be a statue of him at Wembley. I hope the book will make people realise what a wonderful player and captain he was.I may have got my taste for sports writing when I was in the first XV at TC. I think I kept my place in the team as I used to send reports of our games to the Express & Star! It was in 1963 that we won the Staffordshire schools seven-a-side tournament at Castlecroft (see photo: Back Moran, Gordos, Baker, Clay; front: Law, Leonard, Edwards).Regards,Steve GordosPS When Nick Jeavons was chosen for England for the first time, I did the report on the back page of the E&S
