Nicky Rolfe

From Nicky Adams I was in the sixth form at TC from 1981 to 1983, my name then was Nicola Rolfe and as I don't think I have ever sent in an update, I thought this would be a good opportunity! After TC I went to Wolverhampton Polytechnic to do a degree in Languages for Business and after working in multi-lingual customer service and management roles in industry for several years, I became involved in delivering training at work and then, when made redundant in the late 1990s, did a training qualification and changed career. I started my own consultancy business and began teaching part time in Further Education on professional courses in training, HR and management. From there, I moved to HE and in somewhat of a full circle, am now a Senior Lecturer in HR and Leadership at the University of Wolverhampton. I mostly teach part time post graduate students on professional courses, but also teach undergraduates as well. I am also working towards my PhD and will be submitting later this year. Outside of work, I live in Telford with my second husband and I have two grown up children, now in their mid 30s from my first marriage. I joined Samaritans as a volunteer in the 1990s and in May of this year will have been a full listening volunteer at Telford Branch for 30 years. I have also recently stood down as Branch Director there after a 3 year term in that role. Over the years I have held a range of senior volunteering roles, regionally and organisation-wide. mostly involved in learning and development. It is something I feel very privileged to be able to do.I have attached a photo of me doing my favourite hobby - outdoor swimming. I have swum outdoors for nearly 15 years, all year (and no, I don't have a wetsuit!) and it is a great way to cope with the ups and downs of life. This probably won't surprise anyone who knew me when I was at TC since I was one of only two girls who did swimming for sport in our year. The other was Jo, but I don't remember her surname.
