I asked Deb to send us a photo when she was awarded her British Empire Medal. From DebWe had a lovely day in The Banqueting Suite at The Birmingham Council House on 25th September 2025 when I was very proud to receive my British Empire Medal. I was nominated by a group of parents and ex members of the 2 youth theatres I have run in Birmingham since 1988. I founded Youth Onstage in 2002 and it is still going strong. We perform 2 shows a year: a pantomime in December and a musical in May. Many of the former members from both youth theatres have moved into the performing industry, performing all over the world and then others have become Directors, Musical Directors, teachers and one even runs a big performing arts school across the Midlands. I try to support them all as much as I can. At Youth Onstage, we are currently rehearsing 'The Grinch, the panto' and then our next show will be the fabulous 'We Will Rock You'. We have 28 members aged from 8 to 22 including 2 of my grandchildren!!I attended the ceremony with my husband John and my 2 'children', Hannah and Matty (both of whom have been members of Youth Onstage). Following the ceremony we went to The Ivy for a celebration meal.
